The brainchild of Perry Farrell is back this year with a vengeance. The once-traveling festival has planted its roots the past few years at Chicago's Grant Park, where for three days the sprawling park ground are invaded of a music-hungry mob. This year's promoters boast a line-up of "acts from rock to avant-garde, indie to funk" and they mean it. From the unabashed soul entourage of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings to the seedy, London-based indie-blues of The Kills, Lollapalooza has pretty much every genre under the sun.
But, the promoters are also concerned with the behind-the-scenes of an event of this scale, so they will be "lightening their load on the earth" by imposing "green initiatives" throughout the festival. Green Mountain Energy company will be monitoring and limiting the CO2 emissions caused by the festival's tech needs, and the vendors throughout the park will feature organic and locally grown foods and crafts. So, there's no need to feel guilty when you're drinking out of your bio-degradable cup and rapping along to Kanye.

Plus: The Ting Tings, Santogold, The Cool Kids, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, Cadence Weapon, Duffy, Yeasayer, Foals, Ha Ha Tonka, Jamie Lidell
* Band lists are not necessarily complete, please check the official festival page for a full lineup.
