Though the juggernaut website Pitchfork Media—a ubiquitous homepage for everyone running in hipster circles—gets a bad rap for being unnecessarily elitist, they have proven that any kid from a basement in Chicago can create a company that is quickly approaching household name status. This year, the third annual Pitchfork Music Festival is continuing to bring out the bets in upcoming indie stars of all genres—hip hop, rap, folk, electronica and straight-up weird rock.
P4K like to keep it simple as far as fests go. So, if you're wondering where the symbolic burning pyre is, or where the crazy, bicycle-powered art installation are hiding, you're in the wrong place. The festival brings you music, sun and fun in Chicago's (the website's hometown) Union Park for a three-day long glimpse at what's hip. Featuring ‘90s lo-fi giants Sebadoh playing their album Bubble and Scrape in its entirety, Brit-pop royalty Jarvis Cocker and old-school, seminal rap outfit Public Enemy, who will play straight through their album It Takes a Nation of Millions To Hold us Back, as some of its featured headliners. And, of course, there are the names you need to know like Atlas Sound, Jay Retard (seriously) and A Hawk and a Hacksaw (no, really). But, don't worry, they're not as elitists as you might think.

* Band lists are not necessarily complete, please check the official festival page for a full lineup.
