Merge Records has snagged Conor Oberst for the singer/songwriter's first solo album since his rare mid-'90s trilogy of cassettes (1993's Water, 1994's Here's to Special Treatment, and 1995's The Soundtrack to My Movie). Ready for an August 4 release, the self-titled disc will feature 12 tracks and the backing of the mysterious Mystic Valley Band, a group that'll join Oberst at the Austin City Limits festival and a number of other TBD summer tour dates.

Lest you worry about the status of Bright Eyes, Oberst also has a couple of B.E. dates scheduled in Mexico later this month.
