    James Gandolfini Gets "Looped In"

    Fri, 02 May 2008 08:22:54

    Joins cast of political satire

James Gandolfini will forever be scarred in our brains as the iconic TV mob boss Tony Soprano, thanks to his realistic, sympathetic and ultimately human portrayal of a complex character on The Sopranos. But that's not stopping Gandolfini from forging ahead with his film career and shedding his image as a wise guy.

The actor has just signed on to star in BBC Films In the Loop, which is said to be a political satire. Former child star Anna Chlumsky, who shot to fame thanks to her precociousness and the fact that Macaulay Culkin received his first onscreen kiss courtesy of her lips in My Girl before fading from view, will also appear in the film, marking her return to film.

In other Sopranos news, Michael Imperioli, who played bad boy Christopher Moltisanti on the series, will direct his first feature film, The Hungry Ghosts. Imperioli, who also co-wrote 1999's Summer of Sam, wrote the script and the film will begin shooting in NYC on May 19. The plot follows several intersecting relationships.
