Monkey: Journey to the West—an opera produced by Damon Albarn of Blur, Gorillaz artist Jamie Hewlett, and director Chen Shi-Zheng—will celebrate its U.S. premiere on May 22 at the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC.
The show is an adaptation of an ancient Chinese legend that involes a "Monkey King" and his revolt against heaven. It'll run 18 times between May 23 and June 8 before opening at London's Royal Opera House two months later. Manchester held Monkey's first performances last year.
