Tattoo the Earth: The First Crusade compiles in-concert performances from some of the leading lights in the new-millennium breed of metal bands. It's gratifying to see that Slayer and Sepultura have endured this far, but for the most part, the collection concentrates on new-school bands like Slipknot, Sevendust, Hatebreed, (hed) pe, and Nothingface (Nashville Pussy feels a little out of place). There are a couple of slow moments, but for the most part, the performances are pretty raging, making this an entertaining listen for fans who couldn't make it to the actual show [Tattoo the Earth: The First Crusade was also released in a clean version with all of the profanities removed.] ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
