    All Music Guide Review

Fabulous Fifties: Favorite Hits gathers more traditional pop favorites from artists like the Ames Brothers, Andy Williams, and Frankie Laine. Johnny Mathis' "Smile," Perry Como's "Papa Loves Mambo," and Doris Day's "A Guy Is a Guy" are some of the collection's nostalgic highlights, along with Terry Gilkyson's "Marianne" and Johnnie Ray's "Just Walking in the Rain." Legendary bandleaders such as Percy Faith, Ray Conniff, Mitchell Ayres, and Paul Weston give the songs a lush, sentimental feel that explains why they are indeed some of the '50s' favorite hits. While not a definitive collection of '50s pop singles, Fabulous Fifties: Favorite Hits still offers a pleasant mix of some of the decade's smoother sounds. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
