Verano 2002 is the latest installation in BMG's ongoing series of Latin pop hits collections. This volume's tracks are almost all remixed for a club/dance audience. Some of them began in the club anyway, like the two tracks included from Los Ilegalles, but others, like "Rompecabezas" by Colombian rockers Los Aterciopelados, are transformed into completely new songs that bear little resemblance to the originals. Other acts falling under the transforming Merenhouse axe are Elvis Crespo, Gisselle, and Brazil's Daniela Mercury, whose Bahia rhythms are made even more club-friendly here by a mix from producer Pablo Flores. ~ Wade Kergan, All Music Guide
