ONE STEP BEYOND: BEST OF NEW WAVE / VARIOUS

Videos from One Step Beyond: The Best of New Wave

    All Music Guide Review

Released by Rhino's budget-line Flashback division -- so, there is packaging that leaves a lot to be desired, as well as a rather short track list -- One Step Beyond: The Best of New Wave takes a fairly arbitrary look at new wave. And, in a couple instances, it goes well outside new wave's time frame: Dramarama's "Anything, Anything (I'll Give You)" and Echo & the Bunnymen's "Lips Like Sugar" were both released too late to be considered new wave. Nonetheless, there are some staples here, such as the B-52's' "Rock Lobster," Devo's "Whip It," Madness' "One Step Beyond," and the Cars' "Shake It Up," which fit the bill and have held up well. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
