    All Music Guide Review

The sweatband and leather jacket sported self-consciously by Waldman on the cover of Which Way to Main Street were mute warnings of what lay within, as she'd decided to try lite metal. At every turn, her fine songs are nearly thwarted -- first by a nail-biting Peter Frampton guitar solo on "Heartbeat," then by a crude, wrong-headed pub-rock arrangement on "You Said It Wasn't Me." Mercifully, her skill surfaces unsullied on the title track and the plaintive "Does Anybody Want to Marry Me." Both of these are skillful, very grown-up ballads, powered by Waldman's piano playing. One thing remains telling where Waldman's material had formerly been interpreted by first-rate talents like Maria Muldaur, Which Way to Main Street's songs were covered by bargain-bucket stars like Don Johnson, who enjoyed a minor hit with "Heartbeat." ~ Charles Donovan, All Music Guide
