    Cortijo Bailable

    01/01/1982 | Disco Hit

    All Music Guide Review

Cortijo's final album marks the end of an era; although, he would never regain the great success that he had in the 50s, the 80s would be a new start that sadly was truncated by the bandleader's death; in order to accomodate to the era, arrangers Ray Santos and Louis García make their usual collaborations, to expand the master's vision. Cortijo's blend of his newer, revised sound seems to make the very best of traditional material; among the guilty pleasures are the title tune, the brazilian "Buenas noches", "Quítate el zapato", and the sublime "Especial para Loíza Aldea". This wonderful recording proved that Cortijo still had the stamina to continue forward, and push his concept to further distances. ~ José A. Estévez, Jr., All Music Guide
