A great deal of the newest music is found only on cassettes or computer discs that are freely exchanged through the mail or available through word-of-mouth contacts and small publications soliciting contributions. (One might be reminded of Frankie Mann's remark that some of the best music in the country is made by "12 year olds in their attics with cassettes.") This is a collection with some of the most inspired, sometimes gawd-awful, but always unique samplings of the cassette culture -- maybe more in the air than underground.
