    All Music Guide Review

Am I Black Enough for You is a thoroughly entertaining collection of early-'70s soul with a black power message that's either explicit or implicit in the music itself. Since it's limited to a single disc and the Sony vaults (which include Columbia, Epic, and Philadelphia International), the collection isn't quite definitive, but it is an excellent sampler, containing underappreciated gems from Sly & the Family Stone ("Thank You for Talkin' to Me Africa"), the O'Jays ("Big Gangster," "Don't Call Me Brother"), Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes ("Ebony Woman," "Where Are All My Friends"), the Isley Brothers ("Freedom," "Brother Brother," "Go for Your Guns"), the Intruders ("Save the Children"), the Jacksons ("Man of War"), and Billy Paul ("Am I Black Enough for You"). ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
