The Mysteries of Life don't try to cause riots or create the most innovative artistic statement of the decade. They just make fun, endearing pop songs that feel good to play and listen to. Cellist Geraldine Haas and bassist Tina Barbieri (Fabric) joined up with core couple Jake Smith and Freda Love for Keep A Secret, which establishes the group's rhythmic, somewhat folky style, rooted in Love's warmly textured mallet-drum sound and Smith's knack for melody. The album's understated sound recalls the pastoral surroundings of the Mysteries' hometown of Bloomington, Indiana. Choice tracks include the bouncy "I Guess I'm In Luck" and the charming single "Going Through The Motions." ~ Troy Carpenter, All Music Guide
