Billboard Top Modern Rock Tracks: 1992 is the most confused out of all the editions of Top Modern Rock Tracks, primarily because modern rock and college radio were coming to grips with grunge over the course of 1992. Consequently, songs like dada's "Dizz Knee Land," Peter Murphey's "The Sweetest Drop," Faith No More's "Midlife Crisis," the Wolfgang Press' "A Girl Like You," INXS' "Not Enough Time," Ocean Blue's "Ballerina Out of Control" and Lou Reed's "What's Good" all sound like they come from a different era -- namely 1990, a few years before Nirvana. Many of these songs are good, but songs like Matthew Sweet's "Girlfriend," the Lemonheads' "It's A Shame About Ray" and Teenage Fanclub's "Star Sign" sound like genuine classics of the era. And that means that 1992 is an enjoyable listen, even if it doesn't really feel like 1992. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
