The Raveonettes' "That Great Love Sound" is a stunning blast of post-Mary Chain pop that goes down just like honey. It really shouldn't work at all since it is so derivative and simple, but it does gloriously. The energy and power propel it into pop heaven; the sharp hooks make sure it stays there. It is one of the instant classic songs of 2003. This three-song EP is built around it. The other two songs on the EP are good enough to have been on the band's debut album, Chain Gang of Love. "Bubblegum" is a short '50s-inspired tune with some fine twangy guitar and "Get Lost" is a heartbroken midtempo cut with more excellent guitar work. The disc is topped off with the spooky video for "That Great Love Sound." ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
