Another offshoot of Time Life's Sounds of the Eighties series, each volume of The Rolling Stone Collection covers a couple years of the decade and rounds up selections that are geared toward the tastes of the average Rolling Stone reader. The discs stray from the mainstream concentration of the mother series and blend college radio favorites with the kind of artists favored by the magazine's old guard. The 1987-1988 volume features Rod Stewart's "Forever Young," Public Enemy's "Bring the Noise," the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Fight Like a Brave," the Replacements' "Can't Hardly Wait," Metallica's "One," and John Mellencamp's "Paper in Fire." ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
