The Very Best of Larry Carlton collects tracks from the smooth jazz guitarist's various late-'80s and '90s albums for both MCA and GRP. Carlton is one of the forerunners of the instrumental pop movement, and while his work is by no means revolutionary, it is largely considered to be some of the best of the genre. Included are such tracks as "Smiles and Smiles to Go," "Hello Tomorrow," and "Emotions Wound Us." While fans of Carlton will most likely own all of his albums already, this collection makes for a solid introduction to his work. ~ Matt Collar, All Music Guide
