    All Music Guide Review

The fabled Texas psychedelic scene of the late 1960s is the subject of this 19-track compilation, a fascinating artifact of its singular time and place. While many of the names are recognizable -- Johnny Winter, Jerry Jeff Walker and Roy Head among them -- their contributions are anything but; Walker, backed by a band called LSD, sounds like a different person altogether on his contribution "Song," while the Warlocks' "Life's a Misery" offers few hints that two of the band's members, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard, would later go on to join ZZ Top. Fun stuff. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
