Clarence Fountain and the Blind Boys of Alabama with Sam Butler

    06/27/2006 | Alliant Music Group

    All Music Guide Review

Clarence Fountain and the Blind Boys of Alabama with Sam Butler contains unreleased cuts from many decades of music from the Blind Boys of Alabama, including recent outtakes, live tracks, and vintage vinyl (these tracks were actually recorded from vinyl so you get pops and all) that's been out of print for decades, and a few other throw ins. Musically, it's the Blind Boys, top-notch performers who are tight, polished, and full of the kind of presence you've been led to expect form their best records. Sonically and annotatively, this collection leaves plenty to be desired. Still, for those fans who have come to the group late, or have tracked them through the decades, this is most likely a necessary purchase. After all, there is no such thing as a bad Blind Boys of Alabama album. ~ Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
