      Bling In Reverse

      SLAVE TO THE MACHINE: Lynam
      DRT 2006

Remember Mars Electric from a few years ago? Well singer Jacob has his own trio now called LYNAM. Hailing from Alabama and not sounding like southern rock, these three Lynams are all about the riffs, the lead guitar and the sing-able melodies, all wrapped up in a tight production. Lynam’s latest CD “Slave to the Machine” was brought together by DRT Entertainment, who rightfully had Bon Jovi/Pantera A&R guru Derek Shuman to sign the band. The disc was produced by Jason Bannister and singer/guitar player Jacob Lynam. This is their 4th CD to date, pulling 5 songs from their early indie CDs, 2 from 2003’s “Bling Bling” and 3 from “Life in Reverse” that came out in 2004. Add another 7 new song to bring us up to date.
So what does STTM have in store for us? Let’s see, how about some huge rock anthems mixed with short pop/rock songs and a couple of ballads. It’s filled with infection melodies intertwined with soulful lead guitar & crystal clear vocals. The mix is very bright and the musicianship is very tight. All held together by the chemistry of all three feeding off each other. The CD opens with, ”It’s All In Your Head” with its power chords and thunderous drums heard over the crunch of the riff. If you like cowbell and scorching leads, look no further than the song “better”. If it’s a single you’re looking for, then go with “Tanis” a catchy song with superb vocals both lead and backing. Remember when Def Leppard rocked? If so, then the title track brings it back, with more cowbell to boot.
If you’re gonna be influenced by 80’s arena rock, then you better have a ballad. Ok, how about a few ballads, like, “By Your Side” and “Letting Go”. Although “Losing Venus” slows down, it builds up to the chorus and includes string with some slick slide guitar. The fun really begins with “Giving Up On RNR” a hard driving rocker who’s lyrics mention Van Halen, GNR, Skid Row, Motley Crue, Kiss, Whitesnake, and Poison. Check it out for your own amusement. Also check out the punkish closer, “I Hate my Generation”. What a band, what a CD , what a ride.
