    All Music Guide Review

Bob Carlisle rode the surprise success of "Butterfly Kisses" for nearly two years before moving to new territory with Stories from the Heart. In reality, the album isn't all that different from its predecessors -- it just happened not to have "Butterfly Kisses" on it. Musically, it's the same ultra-polished CCM and faux-adult contemporary soul that sent Shades of Grace to the top of the charts. Stories from the Heart also happens to share the same sentiments as "Butterfly Kisses" -- almost every song on the record appeals to "the heart," either through tales of family, God, country, Jesus or love. Although nothing stands out like "Butterfly Kisses" (though, by God, he tries real hard for another grand slam with "Father's Love"), there aren't many weak moments on the record, and that may be enough for many fans of the father-daughter epic. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
