The Premonition Years: 1994-2002 collects tracks the jazz pianist/singer/songwriter Patricia Barber recorded for the independent Premonition label. These are the cuts that helped solidify Barber's reputation as an enigmatic, cerebral, and creatively inspired artist with a knack for intimate and reflective cabaret-influenced performances that touched on jazz standards, reinterpretations of contemporary pop tunes, and her own literate and poetic songs. Interestingly, this anthology is separated into three discs of "pop songs," "standards," and "originals," respectively. In that sense, its a perfect introduction to Barber's singular approach to jazz. ~ Matt Collar, All Music Guide
