All Music Guide Review

Universal's Del Amitri Collection pales in comparison to 1998's Hatful of Rain: The Best of Del Amitri. While "Always the Last to Know" may be the popular Scottish alternative rock group's best known track, their long-term success came through a bevy of other chart-topping singles, many of which are curiously absent here. There's good stuff to be found here, but the absence of "Kiss This Thing Goodbye," "Just Like a Man" and "Cry to Be Found," as well as the inclusion of a live version of "Hatful of Rain" instead of the more familiar studio rendition, make this collection a poor starting point for new fans, and a disappointing walk down memory lane for longtime listeners. ~ James Christopher Monger, All Music Guide
