There's much more to Petula Clark's career than most people realize. She got her start on the BBC way back in 1942, long before "Downtown" made her an international star in 1964, and while her biggest hits were written by other composers, she has done much more than just dabble in writing and composing on her own, as this eye opening collection makes clear. Included here are the airy and pretty "Mad About You," the classic "You're the One," which the Vogues turned into a big hit in 1965, songs from the two musicals she wrote with Dee Shipman, +Someone Like You and +Zola, and the score she composed for the unreleased movie Pétain. Fans looking for Petula Clark the pop singer may be disappointed by what's here, but those curious about going a little deeper into her career will be pleasantly surprised at her depth and skill as a writer. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
