    Retrospective, Vol. 2

    12/11/2007 | Asylum Records

    All Music Guide Review

The confusingly titled Retrospective, Vol. 2 -- there is no other CD called Retrospective in Sevendust's catalog, although there is a 2001 DVD called Retrospect -- is ostensibly an archival release, as the backward-looking title suggests. It's not, really. It's a collection of three new songs -- "Losing You," "The Rim," "Sleeper," none too noteworthy, but they're not bad, either -- and six OK live cuts, all buttressed with a DVD containing the tantalizing documentary "A Day in the Life of Sevendust," several videos, plus other video fun for fans. And that's exactly who this is for: fans who need a dose of Sevendust live, who will laugh at Pete the A&R Guy. For them, this is a worthwhile release to bide time between records; for all others it's passable. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
