For a city best-known worldwide for its beer and the German settlers who set up shop, it may surprise outsiders that a considerable underground Celtic music scene exists in this Midwestern community. With a diverse selection of jigs, reels, waltzes, and polkas, the artists on this recording perform with amazing precision and respect toward the Celtic music tradition. Save for this album's title and the handful of vocal songs, one might accurately surmise that instead of originating in Waukesha and Milwaukee counties The Northern Meeting could claim counties Cork or Down as home. The Wisconsin dialect on the vocal selections eliminates Ireland as a possibility) The duo-fiddle interplay of the groups 180 & the Letter G and the Ghillies are of particular interest as traditional favorites "Broken Pledge," "Banish Misfortune," and "Mairi's Wedding" are delivered with emotional and technical perfection.
