Mel Tormé

The third reissue of classic Mel Tormé selections from the 1940s and '50s includes superb renditions of "When It's Sleepy Time Down South" (complete with original lyrics) and "The Blues," plus more jazzy tunes like "Baby, Don't You Go 'Way Mad," with Jimmy Mundy's arrangement, and "A Fine Romance," pairing Tormé with Janet Waldo and backed by The Dean Elliott orchestra. "The Money Song" includes The Mel-Tones and Elliott orchestra. Tormé is otherwise backed by the Harry Sosnik, Dean Trenier, Bizz Adiam or Marty Paich orchestras and the Dave Barbour Four or Page Cavanaugh Trio. These Laserlight reissues are woefully short on the information side, which hurts them when comparing their titles to the authoritative research routinely available on Musicraft, Majestic and Discovery Tormé reissues. ~ Ron Wynn, All Music Guide
